* Mitochondria is a double membrane bounded structure.
* The outer membrane forms the continuous limiting boundary of the organelle.
* Inner side of inner membrane is called as matrix.
* Inner membrane forms a number of infoldings called cristae.
* Mitochondria are the sites of aerobic Respiration.
* Mitochondria produce energy in the form of ATP. Hence they are called power houses of the cell.
* Matrix of mitochondria also possess single circular DNA molecule, few RNA molecules and 70S ribosomes.
* Mitochondria divide by fission.
