Neurons are functional units of nervous tissue. They initiate and transmit impulses.
Neuron consists of 3 parts:
i) Cell body : It has more cytoplasm and a large spherical nucleus and Nissl bodies.
ii) Dendrites : They are short and branched processes.
They transmit nerve impulses towards cell body.
iii) Axon : It is only one, long, cylindrical process. Its cytoplasm is axoplasm.
Its terminal part divides into many fine filaments called telodendria. They end with terminal boutons. They contain neuro-transmitters.
