  • It has short, cylindrical, branched mono-nucleate cells.
  • It has alternate dark and light bands. Hence, it is a striated.
  • The dark lines across the cardiac muscle are called intercalated discs.
  • Each myocardial cell is joined to adjacent myocardial cell by electric synapses.
  • It is involuntary in function.
