The T.S of monocot stem has:

  •  Epidermis 
  •  Hypodermis
  • Ground tissue 
  •  Vascular bundles
    • Epidermis : It is the outermost protective layer.
      •  It is covered with a thin layer of cuticle.
      •  It consists of few stomata.
    • Hypodermis : It is present below the epidermis.
      •  It has sclerenchymatous tissue.
      •  It provide mechanical strength.
    • Ground tissue : A large, conspicuous parenchymatous ground tissue is present below the hypodermis.
    •  Vascular bundles : A large number of scattered vascular bundles present.
      •  Each vascular bundle is surrounded by a sclerenchymatous bundle sheath.
      •  Vascular bundles are conjoint and closed.
      •  Peripheral vascular bundles are generally smaller than the centrally located ones.
      •  The phloem parenchyma is absent.
