Cartilage is a solid, semi-rigid skeletal connective tissue. It is of 3 types:
i) Hyaline cartilage :
* Bluish-white, glass like cartilage
* Weakest cartilage with small collagen fibres.
* Perichondrium is present except in articular cartilage.
Eg: Cartilages of larynx, tracheal rings.
ii) Elastic cartilage :
* Yellowish in colour.
* It has elastic fibres along with collagen fibres.
* Perichondrium present.
Eg : Ear pinnae, epiglottis
iii) Fibrous cartilage :
* Strongest cartilage.
* Perichondrium is absent.
* Many collagen fibres are present.
Eg : Intervertebral discs.
