Detailed Solution

Devotion around lord Vitthala gave rise to the Varkari sect.
Lord Vitthala was adored by the Vaishnava poet-saints of Maharashtra Namadeva, Eknath, Jnaneshwar, and Tukaram. The Varkari Sect was born out of devotion to Lord Vitthala. The Varkari sect emphasised the annual pilgrimage to Pandharpur. Lord Vitthal is considered to be the presiding deity of Pandharpur. Lord Vitthal is considered to be one of the forms of lord Krishna. The tradition of the Varkari system has been part of Hindu culture since the thirteenth century. The annual pilgrimage taken by the people who follow the Varkari sect is known as Wari. The Varkari poet-saints are very known and famous for their devotional songs, attributed to lord Vithoba another name of Lord Vitthal, and composed in Marathi.
