Dhangars are a prominent pastoral community of Maharashtra. Some of them are buffalo herders and blanket weavers, but most of them are shepherds. During the monsoon season, the Dhangar shepherds reside in the central plateau of Maharashtra. Its poor soil and low rainfall distinguish the semi-arid region. The region is suitable for only dry crops like bajra. By October, they harvest bajra, start moving towards the west and continue their journey until they reach Konkan. This region is known for its rich soil and high rainfall. They return to the dry plateau when it's monsoon again.
