Dhangars are natives of Maharashtra.
Dhangars are mostly shepherds and blanket weavers and are considered scheduled tribe communities. They are a group of herding communities in India, mainly in Maharashtra and some parts of Karnataka, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. They are also referred to as Gavali in southern Maharashtra and ahir in northern Uttar Pradesh. The Gavali or Dhangars are found in the coastal strip and practise cattle/buffalo herding and shifting cultivation.
