Dhangars are pastoralists found in the central plateau of Maharashtra. They comprise shepherds, blanket weavers, and buffalo herders. They follow their movement between the Central Plateau and Konkan. During monsoon, the Dhangars stay at the central plateau which is a semi-arid area where bajra is grown. Bajra is harvested by October after which the Dhangars move towards Konkan, which is a flourishing agricultural tract. The Konkani peasants welcome the Dahangars whose flocks are used to manure the field and utilize stubble to feed flocks. As the flocks cannot withstand the wet monsoon of Konkan, the Dhangars move back to the dry plateau at the onset of the monsoon. This pattern is followed every year.
