Detailed Solution

The Dhangars were a significant pastoral community in Maharashtra. Dhangars are shepherds, blanket weavers, and other populations that are classified as scheduled tribes. They are typically Maharashtrians. Dhangar is a herding caste found in India, primarily in Maharashtra, followed by Karnataka, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh. In southern Maharashtra, they are known as Gavali, while in northern Uttar Pradesh, they are known as ahir. The Gavali, or Dhangars, lived along the seashore and engaged in cattle and buffalo herding and shifting cultivation. Dhangars went to the Konkan region during the monsoon because Maharashtra is a semi-arid region with minimal rainfall and poor soil, causing the land to become thorny scrub.
