Dhangars, when moved to Konkan, were welcomed by Konkani peasants.
The Konkan region was a thriving agricultural region with abundant rains and fertile soil. After the Kharif harvest was cut, the fields needed to be fertilized for the rabi harvest. Flocks of dhangars fed on the stubble and manured the fields. The shepherds brought rice supplies from the Konkani peasants back to the plateau. When the monsoon arrived, the Dhangars took their flocks out of the Konkan and the coastal regions and settled back on the dry plateau because the rainy conditions were intolerable for the sheep.
