Detailed Solution

Diabetes insipidus is caused due to deficiency of ADH.

Diabetes insipidus is a disorder caused by a deficiency or reduced effectiveness of antidiuretic hormone (ADH), also known as vasopressin. ADH is a hormone produced by the hypothalamus and released from the posterior pituitary gland. Its main function is to regulate the balance of water in the body by controlling the amount of water reabsorbed by the kidneys.

In diabetes insipidus, the body either doesn't produce enough ADH or the kidneys don't respond effectively to it. As a result, the kidneys excrete large amounts of dilute urine, leading to excessive thirst and increased fluid intake to compensate for the fluid loss. This condition is different from diabetes mellitus, which involves issues with blood sugar regulation.
