Detailed Solution

The number of carbon atoms per unit cell is 8 .

Atoms make form the FCC unit cell structure seen in diamond.

Atoms at corner  =8×18=1

Atoms at face =6×12=3

The other half of the tetrahedral gaps contain C atoms.

The FCC structure has 8 tetrahedral vacancies.

This explains the remaining 8×12=4C atoms

Thus, each diamond cell has a total of 4+4=8 C atoms.

Hence the option D is correct.
