Detailed Solution

Dietrich Brandis was from Germany.
The British were concerned that the destruction of forests would result from locals using them and traders cutting down trees arbitrarily. So they made Dietrich Brandis, a German expert, the first Inspector General of Forests in India after deciding to consult him. He signed the Indian Forest Act of 1865 and founded the Indian Forest Service in 1864. In Dehradun, the Imperial Forest Research Institute was founded in 1906. He tried to implement "scientific forestry" forestry in India. He suggested several measures to reach this goal. However, many of his actions are criticised today. Despite this, Dietrich Brandis is known as the Father of Indian forestry.
