Difference between STD code and country code?

The STD code and country code are both used in telephone dialing but serve different purposes and are used at different levels. STD Code (Subscriber Trunk Dialing): This code is used for making calls within the same country but between different cities or states. It helps connect long-distance calls domestically. For example, India’s STD code for Delhi is 011, and for Mumbai, it’s 022. When calling from one city to another, you dial “0” followed by the city’s STD code and then the local number.

Country Code: The country code is used when calling internationally, from one country to another. It helps identify the country’s telephone network. For example, India’s country code is +91, the USA’s is +1, and the UK’s is +44.
