Anemophilous Flowers (Wind-Pollinated)

  1. Pollination takes place through wind.
  2. Flowers are usually small in size.
  3. Not brightly coloured.
  4. Do not produce any strong fragrance.
  5. Do not produce nectar.
  6. Produce a large quantity of pollen grains.
  7. Pollen grains are lightweight and smooth, easily carried by wind.
  8. Stigma is large, hairy, or branched to trap pollen.
  9. Examples: Maize, Jowar, grasses.

Entomophilous Flowers (Insect-Pollinated)

  1. Pollination occurs through insects.
  2. Flowers are large or grow in clusters.
  3. Petals are brightly coloured to attract pollinators.
  4. Emit a noticeable odour.
  5. Produce nectar as a reward for insects.
  6. Produce a smaller quantity of pollen grains.
  7. Pollen grains are heavy and sticky to attach to insect bodies.
  8. Stigma is generally sticky to capture pollen.
  9. Examples: Jasmine, Rose.
