Detailed Solution

Dikaryophase is found in ascomycetes and basidiomycetes. Penicillium is an example of ascomycetes and hence exhibits dikaryophase. In these fungi an intervening dikaryotic stage (n + n, i.e., two nuclei per cell) occurs as plasmogamy is not instantly followed by karyogamy; such a condition is called a dikaryon and the phase is called dikaryophase of fungus.
