Detailed Solution

When CO2 is passed into a concentrated solution of Brine saturated with ammonia ammonium bicarbonate is formed.
2NH3+H2O+CO2NH42CO3
NH42CO3+H2O+CO22NH4HCO3
Ammonium bicarbonate then react with sodium chloride forming sodiumbicarbonate.
NH4HCO3+NaClNaHCO3+NH4Cl
Precipitated sodiumbicarbonate is removed by filtration and changed into sodium carbonate by heating
2NaHCO3ΔNa2CO3+H2O+CO2
The filterate contains ammonium chloride it is mixed with Ca(OH)2 and heated with steam
then NH3 is liberated.
2NH4Cl+Ca(OH)22NH3+CaCl2+2H2O
