Detailed Solution

Dispersion is a phenomenon when white light suffers refraction.
The dispersion of light is splitting a ray of white light into its seven constituent colours when travelling through a transparent medium such as a prism by refraction.
The cause of the dispersion of light is that different colours of white light have different wavelengths, which refract at different angles on travelling through a glass prism. This is the reason for the splitting of white rays into different colours.
