Detailed Solution

The cell cycle involves 2 stages:
A) In case of mitosis: Interphase and mitotic division phase.
B) In case of meiosis: Interphase and meiotic division phase.

In both mitosis and meiosis, prior to the division phase, interphase takes place. Interphase is further divided into 3 phases:
1. G1 (Growth phase I): During G1, the number of cell organelles increases (cell organelles duplicate) in the cell and the cell grows.
2. S phase (DNA synthesis Phase): Here, the cell undergoes DNA replication, histone synthesis and centriole duplication.
3. G2 phase (Growth phase II): During this phase, special materials for cell division such as tubulin protein (required for the formation of spindle fibres during the division phase) are made.
