Detailed Solution

Aldehydes are more reactive than ketones in nucleophilic addition reactions due to the Steric effect. The reactivity of the carbonyl group towards the addition reactions depends on the positive charge on the carbonyl carbon. Electron withdrawing group increases the positive charge on the carbonyl carbon and must increase its reactivity towards addition reactions. Reaction with HCN:

H3C-HC=O + H-CN → CH3-HC(OH)CN

CH3C(O)-CH3 + HCN CH3C(OH)(CN)-CH3 .

Reaction with RMgX: R-CHO + RMgX → RR-CH-OH

R-C(O)-R + RMgX → R-C(OH)(R)-R

Hence correct option is: (D).All of these.
