• Chloroplasts, the specialized organelles in leaf cells, are directly responsible for this process.

Can Photosynthesis Occur in Moonlight?

Plants cannot perform photosynthesis in moonlight because the light intensity is too weak to excite chlorophyll molecules in the reaction centers PS I and PS II. Without this excitation, light-dependent reactions cannot occur.

As a result, photosynthesis does not take place under moonlight.
