The founder of the Indian constitution and leader of the Dalits, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, was the first person from his caste to graduate from college and go to England to study law. He implored Dalits to send their children to college and school. He also suggested Dalits labour in various government jobs to escape the caste system. He monitored multiple efforts by Dalits to enter temples. He later converted to Buddhism in search of a religion that treated everyone equally. Dr Ambedkar believed Dalits ought to fight against the caste system and seek to build a society that valued everyone, not just a privileged few.
