Dr B.R. Ambedkar organised the Dalits into the Depressed Classes Association. In order to ensure that members of the Scheduled Caste were fairly represented in India's decision-making institutions, Dr B. R. Ambedkar established the All-India Depressed Classes Association in 1930. He attended the Second Round Table Conference as a representative of this group. At the Conference, Dr B.R. Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi disagreed about the need for separate electorates for the Dalits. When the British government acceded to Ambedkar's request, Gandhi began a fast unto death. Gandhi believed that giving Dalits separate voting electorates would make it more difficult for them to integrate into society. After signing the Poona Pact, Ambedkar eventually agreed with Gandhi's perspective.
