Detailed Solution

We immerse objects in ice to swiftly cool them down, yet the ice we use is made of water molecules. This is referred to as common ice.
Other materials, such as dry ice and liquid nitrogen, are employed for cooling in addition to regular ice.

Dry ice is carbon dioxide (CO2) in a solid or frozen state. Dry ice, or solid carbon dioxide, has a freezing point of -78 degrees Celsius, or -109 degrees Fahrenheit. Dry ice works because of one of its main characteristics, sublimation, which helps to quickly cool the substance. Since liquid carbon dioxide is not formed, solid carbon dioxide simply transforms into gaseous carbon dioxide.

Therefore, when dry ice is exposed to a higher temperature, carbon dioxide droplets condense into a cloud. Dry ice is used in place of regular ice when we wish to package something at a frigid temperature since regular ice would mess up or damage the item.

Hence, Dry ice converts to gas by sublimation.
