During Alivardi Khan's reign, the banking house of Jagat Seth became highly prosperous. Murshid Quli Khan broke away from Mughal rule after being chosen to serve as the naib, or assistant, to the ruler of Bengal. All Mughal jagirdars were transferred to Orissa, and he mandated a thorough review of Bengal's revenue. As a result, all zamindars received cash payments with considerable fervour.
