Mineralisation is the last step of decomposition, after humification, during which humus is formed. Humus is colloidal in nature which serves as a reservoir of inorganic nutrients. So, during mineralisation inorganic nutrients are withdrawn with the help of microbes. At the level of detritus, fragmentation takes place due to which smaller particles are formed and during catabolism, detritus degrades into smaller inorganic substances with the help of bacterial and fungal enzymes.
