Ortho nitrophenol has intra molecular hydrogen bonding while para introphenol has

intemolecualr hydrogen bonding (comparatively stronger). Due to this reason, the boiling point of o– nitrophenol less than that of p – nitro phenol. Hence O – nitro phenol is steam volatile and can be separated from P – nitro phenol by steam distillation.
