Significant economic developments occurred in early medieval India, including land grants, massive transfers of land and land revenues to secular and religious groups, a decline in trade and commerce, decreased mobility of artisans, peasants, and traders, and unequal distribution. Many developments took place, including worshipping new deities, constructing temples by royalty, and expanding the priestly Brahmana caste's dominance. The Crusades were another critical social change in mediaeval times. Between 1000 and 1300, banking, trade, and agriculture made tremendous advancements. Towns and cities grew. This was partly caused by western Europe's territorial expansion and population growth.
