Detailed Solution

During the sacred thread ceremony, why did Guru Nanak Dev Ji object to donning Janeu- He demanded a thread made of virtues rather than a thread of cotton.
Guru Nanak was the founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. When Guru Nanak was nine years old, his father was determined to make him wear a jane. He refused to wear the sacred thread due to the following reasons:
- It was a sign of discrimination as lower caste people were not allowed to wear.
- It brought no virtue or enhancement to the wearer.
- It falsely gives the Brahmin a position of spiritual guide.
