Detailed Solution

Each of the equal sides of an isosceles triangle is 13 cm and base is 24 cm. The area of the triangle is 60 c m 2  .
Given each of the equal sides of an isosceles triangle is 13 cm and base is 24 cm.
Drawing a median on base BC,
Question ImageAs median divides the side into two equal parts, so BD=12cm
Using Pythagoras theorem in triangle ABD,
Hypotenus e 2 =Bas e 2 +Heigh t 2
AB 2 = AD 2 + BD 2 13 2 = AD 2 + 12 2 169= AD 2 +144 A D 2 =25 AD=5
Now, the area is
A= 1 2 ×b×h A= 1 2 ×24×5 A=60c m 2   Area of triangle is 60 cm 2   .
