The eardrum is a thin stretched membrane like a stretched rubber sheet. It also functions similarly to a stretched rubber sheet. The eardrum vibrates as a result of sound waves. The inner ear receives vibrations from the eardrum. The signal then travels to the brain from there. We hear in that way.

If we keep some cereals on a stretched rubber sheet over a tin or a can and make some sound through its other end then, we can see the cereals jumping. Which means the sound makes the rubber sheet vibrate.
