The inner ear receives vibrations from the eardrum. The signal then travels to the brain from there. We hear in that way.

If we keep some cereals on a stretched rubber sheet over a tin or a can and make some sound through its other end then, we can see the cereals jumping. Which means the sound makes the rubber sheet vibrate.
