Economically backwards states are more prone to food insecurity. Even though a sizable portion of the population in India experiences food and nutrition insecurity, beggars, landless people with little to no access to land and traditional artisans and service providers are the hardest hit. Family security in metropolitan regions is often compromised by those whose working members are often employed in low-paying jobs or the casual labour market. These employees primarily perform seasonal work and are compensated with highly meagre pay that barely covers basic needs. Food insecurity is more common among SCs, STs, and some OBC groups that either has a poorer land base or deficient land production.
