Education is a subject of the Concurrent list.
It used to be a subject of the state list but later it was moved to the Concurrent list, now giving authority to the Union to make laws upon it as well. Among the three lists (Union list, State list, Concurrent list) provided in the seventh schedule of the Constitution of India, it is one. The Concurrent list contains subjects which come under the jurisdiction of both the state governments and the central or union government. Both the governments of the centre and state can make laws.
