A mid-term election has systematised when a no-confidence motion has passed in the Lok Sabha or a state assembly, and there is no other alternative to the government. These elections are held when the Lok Sabha or a state assembly dissolves as a whole before the end of its tenure. Such elections cause undesired or unplanned expenses for the public as they have to choose new leaders who can work for the betterment and welfare of society in a short period. In other words, a mid-term election is the type of election through which people elect their representatives in the middle of the duration of the executive.
