Electric Fuse is a safety device which protects electric circuits and appliances by breaking the current flow of any unduly high electric current.
When an excessive amount of current flows through the fuse wire, the heating effect of the current causes the fuse wire to melt. This melting of fuse wire is because the fuse wire is chosen such that it has a low melting point. The melting of the wire causes the loop to break, stopping the flow of charges in the circuit. It is a low melting point copper or other metal wire that breaks down due to heat caused by high voltage or overload to avoid short circuits or any damage to the device.
