Enantiomeric compounds are pair of compounds that are non-superimposable mirror image and rotate the plane of polarized light by exactly the same amount but in opposite direction. A solution of equal amount of two enantiomers is called a racemic mixture and is optically inactive. Sometimes we have mixtures that are neither optically pure (all are enantiomer0 nor racemic (equal amount of two enantiomers). In these cases, we specify the optical purity of the mixture. Optical  purity  (O.P) = Observed rotationrotation of pure enantiomer× 100 
The enantiomer excess (e.e) is a similar method for expressing the relative amounts of enantiomers in a mixture.
