In plants like pea, bean and groundnut the endosperm is completely consumed by the developing embryo before seed formation. Such seeds formed are called the non-endospermic seeds.

Whereas , in plants like castor and coconut  the endosperm persist in the mature seed. Such seeds formed are called the endospermic seeds.
