Detailed Solution

given that equal masses of ice at0°C  and water at 100°C are mixed

Let mass of ice = m

Lf=80cal/g

initial temperature = 0°C

resulting temperature = t

mass of water = m

initial temperature = 100°C

final temperature = t°C

heat lost by water = heat gained by ice to become water at0°C  + heat gained by 0°C water to raise its temperature t°C

m×1×(100t)=80m+m×1×(t0)

m(100t)=m(80+t)

100t=80+t

200=2t

t=10°C
