Detailed Solution

Every village in Panchayat is divided into wards.
The smaller units in a village panchayat are called wards. Each ward has an elected representative known as Panch. The ward Panchs and the Sarpanch together form the Gram Panchayat. The elections are held every five years. The period of a Gram panchayat is, therefore, five years. If theGram Panchayat is dispersed under any circumstance, the polls are to be held within six months. The members of the Gram Sabha directly elect the ward panch. The wards assert the democratic functioning of the Panchayati raj system.
