Every village Panchayat is divided into wards.
The Panchayati Raj system was introduced to engage people in governance. It embodied the Gandhian vision for a self-reliant rural India. The gram panchayat or the village panchayat is at the basic tier of the Panchayati raj system. These village panchayats are further divided into smaller units for ease of administration. These smaller areas are called wards. The adults of the ward elect their representatives in the panchayat elections. These representatives are known as Panch. All the Panchs elected in the village panchayat together elect a panchayat president or the sarpanch. The gram panchayat is made up of the Panchs and the sarpanch. They work together to maintain the resources, ensure good transportation and distribute resources in the village.
