Evidence about Samudragupta is found in a prashasti named Prayag Prashasti. This prashasti was written by his court poet, Harisena, who sang the praises of his conquests over the Indian Subcontinent. Samudragupta was a learned scholar, a great king, and a warrior who won several battles and how he was the best poet.
