Detailed Solution

Evidence about Samudragupta is found in a prashasti named Prayag Prashasti. This prashasti was written by his court poet, Harisena, who sang the praises of his conquests over the Indian Subcontinent. Samudragupta was a learned scholar, a great king, and a warrior who won several battles and how he was the best poet. The prashasti provides evidence about his conquest over Aryavarta,i.e., the nine kingdoms that were uprooted and brought under Samudragupta’s reign. The Dakshinapatha conquest, which involved gaining control over the twelve kingdoms of the south while still owing Samudragupta tribute, is where the second conquest is described.
