The main occupation of Dhangars was buffalo herding. The Gavali or Dhangars are found in the coastal strip of India and practice cattle/buffalo herding and shifting cultivation. They also weave blankets. Dhangars move to the Konkan region during monsoon because Maharashtra is a semi-arid region with low rainfall and poor soil, and the land gets converted into thorny scrub.
