Detailed Solution

Budding in yeast is an asexual reproduction method where a small outgrowth, called a bud, develops on the parent yeast cell. The parent’s nucleus divides through mitosis, and one of the new nuclei moves into the bud. The bud then grows, matures, and finally separates to form a new yeast cell.

Steps of Budding in Yeast:

  1. Bud Formation: A small bump or bulge appears on the surface of the parent yeast cell.
  2. Nuclear Division: The parent cell’s nucleus divides by mitosis to form two daughter nuclei.
  3. Nucleus Migration: One daughter nucleus moves into the developing bud.
  4. Bud Growth: The bud enlarges and develops its own cytoplasm and organelles.
  5. Separation: When the bud matures, it detaches from the parent cell and becomes an independent yeast cell.
  6. Chain Formation (Optional): Sometimes, the new cell starts budding before separating, creating chains of yeast cells (straight or branched).
