Detailed Solution

Double circulation means that blood passes through the heart twice during one complete circulation in the body.

In humans and other mammals, the heart has four chambers—two atria and two ventricles. Blood circulates in two separate pathways: pulmonary circulation and systemic circulation.

Types of Circulation

  • Pulmonary Circulation: Carries deoxygenated blood from the right ventricle to the lungs and brings back oxygenated blood to the left atrium.
  • Systemic Circulation: Transports oxygenated blood from the left ventricle to body organs and returns deoxygenated blood to the right atrium.

Benefits of Double Circulation

AdvantageExplanation
Efficient Oxygen SupplyEnsures oxygen-rich blood is sent to body tissues.
Separation of BloodOxygenated and deoxygenated blood remain separate.
Higher Energy OutputSupports high metabolism in warm-blooded animals.
