Explain Maslow’s theory of motivation with an example.

Maslow’s hierarchy (bottom to top):

1. Physiological: pay for food/shelter.

2. Safety: job security, safe conditions.

3. Love/Belonging: team cohesion.

4. Esteem: recognition, responsibility.

5. Self-actualization: growth, creativity, purpose.

Example: A firm hires interns. First, it pays stipends (physiological) and gives contracts and health cover (safety). It assigns mentors and team stand-ups (belonging). It runs “Rookie of the Month” awards (esteem). Finally, it lets interns lead a pilot project aligned to their interests (self-actualization). Motivation rises as lower-level needs are met.
