Detailed Solution

  • Transfer of genetic information between two bacterial cells by direct cell to cell contact through conjugation tube or sex pilus is called as conjugation. It was discovered by Lederberg and Tatum in E.coli in 1946.
  • Donor cell participating in conjugation is called as F+ and acceptor is called as F. Donar cell contain F plasmid. F+cells with help of pilus contact with Fcells. After contact F plasmid of F+cells undergoes replication & replicated DNA pass through conjugation tube into Fcells. After conjugation Fcells are converted into F+.
