The reduction of aldehydes and ketones to methylene in presence of hydrazine and followed
by the KOH in boiling solvent like ethylene glycol.

(b) Cannizzaro Reaction
Aldehydes which do not have alpha-hydrogen atom undergo disproportionation reaction in which, one molecule is reduced to its corresponding alcohol and other molecule of aldehyde is reduced to the salt of the corresponding acid.
