Explain the function of acid in our stomach.

Acid makes the stomach’s habitat acidic. It activates inactive pepsinogen into pepsin, and pepsin helps in the digestion of protein. It also kills bacteria which come into our body through food. Hydrochloric acid in gastric juice breaks down the food, and the digestive enzymes split up the proteins.
