The Peninsular Plateau of India is a triangular-shaped, elevated landmass that lies to the south of the Northern Plains. It is the oldest and most stable part of the Indian subcontinent, formed by igneous and metamorphic rocks.
It is divided into two major regions:

• Deccan Plateau (south of the Narmada River)
